“Prevention is better than cure” is what we truly believe in, especially for your kids. At Kids and Braces Superspeciality Dental clinic our Orthodontist agrees on the importance of seeking an Orthodontic evaluation early.

The Indian and American association of orthodontist recommends that children see an Orthodontist at age seven. At this early age orthodontic treatment may not be necessary but vigilant examination can anticipate the most ideal time to begin the treatment.

Typically early evaluation or treatment prevents future Orthodontic problems by or is aimed at

  • Guiding the incoming permanent teeth into proper position thereby reducing the chances of teeth getting stuck in bone
  • Influencing jaw growth to create optimal or ideal facial balance and harmony
  • Reducing the likelihood of teeth extraction or surgery in future
  • Reducing the treatment time and expense or avoiding the treatment completely in future
  • Reducing the duration of retainer wear as early treatment results are more stable

For parents, it’s not always easy to know if your child may need orthodontic treatment.

Here are a few things to look for that may mean your child needs to see an Orthodontist

  • Early or delayed loss of milk teeth (your child should typically start losing teeth around age five, and will have all their permanent teeth in around age 13)
  • Finger or thumb sucking habit, mouth breathing habit
  • Crowed or protruded front teeth
  • Upper and the lower teeth not meeting properly
  • Difficulty in chewing food
  • Jaws and teeth not proportionate to the rest of the face
  • Jaws that protrudes or make sounds when opening and closing
